Most people are familiar with incandescent bulbs and the lighting they provide. In a few years from now this will not be the case, however, as their use is systematically being phased out. People have been making the switch to fluorescent bulbs because they have proven to be a better alternative. This switch will be short-lived, though, since with the advent of the Light-Emitting Diode or LED lights, everyone is beginning to see the light. As it turns out, what fluorescent lighting was to incandescent lighting, LED lighting is now to fluorescent lighting.

LED light eclipses both with a lifespan exceeding 50,000 hours on average. What this means is that subsequent to its installation it may not be necessary to replace that LED light bulb for another decade. The constant switching on and off will have the effect of reducing the life expectancy of incandescent and fluorescent bulbs, but this action has no effect on LED bulbs. Noteworthy too is the fact that LED bulbs are constructed using robust components, enabling them to withstand substantial impact as well as adverse weather conditions.
Low Energy Consumption
LED lighting is miles ahead of the competition in regards to energy consumption. They are reported to be more energy efficient than compact fluorescent lights (CFLs) by 300 percent, and more energy efficient than incandescent lights by 1000 percent. Thanks to the minimal energy consumption of LED light, it is the ideal for low-voltage power supplies. It is therefore perfectly suited for use in conjunction with solar and remote area usage. Considered a boon too of LED light is that when switched on it lights up immediately at full brightness. Other lighting methods will usually take a few seconds to attain full brightness.
Outstanding Design Flexibility
Another selling point of LED lights has to do with their design flexibility. Unlike its competitors, LED lights do not need external reflectors to focus light on a specific area. The result is higher application efficiency. They can be arranged to assume a multiplicity of shapes and designs to suit virtually any application, commercial or residential. LED lights lend themselves quite readily to features such as dimming, and with the incorporation of timers, remote controls and the like the possibilities are seemingly endless.
Minimal Heat, Ultra Violet, and Infrared Emissions
Items that require illumination but are sensitive to heat, ultra violet emissions, and infrared light will benefit from the use of LED lighting, as the amounts of these that it produces while in operation is negligible. Art galleries and museums that house treasures are likely to utilize this technology.
In addition to the foregoing, competitive prices, availability, and ease of installation all combine to make LED lights the popular choice for many.
